Setup and organised by 3 Manchester based Security Professionals (who have full time jobs in InfoSec), and put on by volunteers under a not-for-profit organisation Manchester BSides CIC. Our way of giving back to the industry which has given us much.
BSides Manchester 2014 was our first year and a great success. We have a page dedicated to 2014 on our website so you can see pictures and details of the event.
BSides Manchester is a free event for the attendees, and put on by people who volunteer their time for free and run the event under BSides Manchester CIC (Community Interest Company). We use the strap line “The FREE InfoSec conference by the community for the community”. BSides Manchester CIC is not allowed to make profit and all income from sponsors is used to pay for and put on the BSides Manchester events.
Last year our audience was made up of InfoSec professionals, people from academia, people from the IT industry, and students (mainly on InfoSec or IT/Computing degrees). People attended from all over the UK and some from further afield in Europe and even from the USA. This year the demand for tickets has been overwhelming.

BSides Manchester Tracks & Speakers
In 2014 we ran two main tracks and a rookie afternoon (in Track 2) for first time presenters. In 2015 we are running three main tracks and a rookie track which may also contain lightening (on the day) presentations. In 2015 we are also running some workshops, demos and training sessions.
In both 2014 & 2015 we have attracted speakers from many of the top UK InfoSec companies and presentations from US speakers who flew into Manchester especially to present at the Conference. In 2014 our keynotes were from Jessie Burns (founder of iSec Partners in San Francisco), and Dr Jessica Barker. Full details of the 2014 speaker line-up can we found on here.
We were sponsored in 2014 by the following companies and have already confirmed some to return and are speaking to the rest: NCC Group, KPMG, PortSwigger, Pen Test Ltd, Nettitude, IOActive, Pen Test Partners, CREST, CESG, Women in Security, Steelcon, Whitehat Rally, Coderdojo.
